Unlocking Treasures is the work of Melissa — a Californian with a lifelong love of jewellery making who followed her English husband to the North East of England. She arrived with her craft, an open heart, and a distinctly Californian eye for boho chic style — and she's never looked back.
The warmth of the people and the beauty of the region — from the cobbled market towns to the dramatic coastline — have shaped everything she makes, blending effortlessly with the free-spirited, sun-kissed aesthetic she brought with her from the West Coast.

The Craft

With over ten years of jewellery making behind her, Melissa works across a range of materials: sterling silver, gold fill, resin and more, drawing on precious and semi-precious stones and — one of her personal favourites — seaglass hand-gathered from the beach at Seaham.
On the North East coast, the sea has spent over a century smoothing fragments of Victorian glass into something quietly beautiful. No two pieces of seaglass are alike — which makes them a natural match for jewellery that is never made twice.

Our studio is in Darlington, and we also take our fitting kit to markets and events across the North — Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Hartlepool, York and Leeds. No clasp, no fuss: just a beautiful, lasting piece made for you, perfect for hen dos, birthdays, and every moment worth marking.
